HOUSE OF HOPE MINISTRY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Chairman - Daniel Henderson

Secretary - Tabitha Gendreau

Chairman - Daniel Henderson

I have been in the construction trade for most of my adult life. Eventually owning and operating my own small construction business.

My passion for missions and outreach started in the mid-90s. First participating in short one day outreach events, painting, building ramps, and doing general repairs for those with great need. I remember one job where I built a small ramp for a wheelchair bound woman, who had not been able to leave her house without assistance for years.

By the early 2000’s I was participating in weeklong mission trips. Being able to effect greater change with larger projects was something that changed me to my very soul. I asked the Lord about fulltime mission work, He told me “Not yet Daniel, be patient”. All in His time.

In 2017 my wife Marilyn and I decided to move to Puerto Rico.  We arrived on the island a few weeks after Hurricane Maria. The island was devastated. Trees gone, houses gone, no electric or water island wide.

We knew we had to help, we started taking food and bottled water throughout the island. We started repairing roofs, first one then another and another. We were replacing windows and doors. Then it happened. God said “now Daniel now. I need you and Marilyn to be my hands and feet”. Since then, that is exactly what we have been doing. Humbly serving the Lord by humbly serving those in need. House of Hope Ministry aka Ministerio Casa de Esperanza was born.

There are three things that are so woven into my story that I cannot tell it without them. First and foremost, God moving in my life and guiding me even when I didn’t know it. My wife and partner Marilyn on this beautiful journey,  lastly, God has helped us establish House of Hope Ministry which is anchored in faith, guided by hope and inspired by the love of Jesus Christ.

She has been instrumental in the Back to School program serving Public Housing children and local churches for several years, she loves bringing joy and toys to children during Christmas thus organizes an event where food, music, games, prayer and toys are provided.

Marilyn especially loves working with her husband Daniel doing mission work, restoring homes and giving hope to those in need.

they love to help people together.

Marilyn lives by her favorite bible verse, Isaiah 6:8 “I heard the voice of the Lord say, “whom shall I send? and who will go for us?” And I said, “here I am Lord, send me!”

I have always been driven by a deep passion to serve others, a calling that first took root through my childhood desire to become a teacher.

While my career path shifted toward military service, that spirit of service never wavered. I have proudly served for 28 years in the Air National Guard, where dedication, community, and leadership have been foundational to my life’s work.

In 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in my first mission trip to Colombia, where our team served a local church and community. This experience profoundly strengthened my commitment to humanitarian work and reinforced my desire to continue serving beyond my military career.

Philanthropy and volunteerism have always been integral to my family’s values, and we are active in supporting and giving back to our local community.

I am honored to serve as Secretary on the Board of House of Hope and to be part of an organization dedicated to bringing HOPE, Help, and Transformation to those in need.

I firmly believe that to serve is to love in action. That's my passion. I studied Industrial Chemistry and for 38 years I worked in the pharmaceutical industry, but my greatest satisfaction has been investing my time and talent in the service of God and neighbor. In my church I have been treasurer, president of the ministry of Christian Education and today I chair the Governing Board. Since October 2024 I have been part of the Ministry of Social Action, Cineret, where food and support are given to homeless people and families in vulnerable situations. My greatest motivation is to fulfill God's call and every action I take I offer to God, living the message of Matthew 25:40: "…Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Director - Dan Mcmanus

Born in the beautiful town of Lajas, Puerto Rico, and raised in Ponce before growing up in Passaic, New Jersey , Joel has carried with him both the values of hard work and the deep love of community. For the past 17 years, he has faithfully served as superintendent of a 19 unit building, where he developed not only the skills of a dedicated handyman, but also the greater gift of building meaningful relationships with tenants, treating each one with dignity, patience and respect. His passion has always been in the transformation of spaces, painting houses, rehabilitating homes and creating places of warmth and hope. Beyond the physical work, Joel 's true calling is in serving others. Guided by faith and a servant's heart, he believes that every person deserves a safe, welcoming home where they can feel God' s love and peace. Now, as a member of House of Hope, Joel brings both his hands-on skills and his spiritual vision to the mission of rehabilitating homes for those who need it most. His prayer is that every wall painted, and every home restored will reflect God's promise in Isaiah 32:18: "My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, undisturbed places of rest ." With humility, dedication and compassion, Joel is committed to being a beacon of restoration, both for homes and for the hearts of those who live in them.
